~Short Cycling~

Can one be happy
and sad
at the same time?

Can one climb
to the top
and dive
to the bottom
all in a moment?

Can one smile
and cry

Can one have hope
for the future
and, yet
dread the unknown?

Can one look
in the mirror
and see beauty,
then cry for the
lines and crow’s feet?

Can one swing the hips,
walk with an invitation
but fear the

Can one feel powerful,
full of life
and crave sleep

Can one look
at the mountain of work,
determined to tackle it
yet despair of ever
getting it done?

Can one look
at the face of an angel
and leave,
despite the joy?

Can one feel
for others’ pain
yet lack the strength
to act?

Oh, yes…
one can do all of these things

It’s called
short cycling

And it is
pure hell

About Icinia

Icinia McIntosh has been writing all of her life. One of her cherished childhood memories is the feeling of absolute joy derived from writing a story...not only the sheer pleasure of putting thoughts on paper, but the knowledge that her words would be read, and enjoyed, by others was intoxicating indeed. Today, Icinia writes mostly poetry, with the occasional foray into the realm of short stories. Icinia McIntosh was born and raised in Canada and still makes her home there.
